Good evening, everyone. I’m Priya, and I’ve been Hannah’s best friend since we were placed next to each other in Year 7 French because our surnames were alphabetically adjacent. We have been inseparable, and occasionally in detention, ever since.

Hannah is the friend who remembers your coffee order, your dentist appointment and your mum’s birthday. When I moved to Glasgow for work and knew nobody, she sent me a parcel every Friday for two months. Tea, a paperback and a note that said “You’ve got this.”

So when she met Ollie, I was protective. Then I watched him learn her coffee order in a week and, on her birthday, recreate the Friday parcel for her, having heard the story once. I realised she had found someone who pays attention the way she does.

Hi everyone, I’m Grace, Emily’s younger sister. Growing up, Emily was the responsible one and I was the one who borrowed her clothes without asking. Today I’m wearing a dress she lent me, with permission, which is growth for both of us.

When I was eight I got lost at the county fair. It was Emily, eleven years old, who found me first. She marched me to the ice-cream van, bought me a cone with her own pocket money and told me she’d always find me. She always has.

Nate, you are the first person I’ve met who looks after Emily the way she looks after everyone else. You bring her tea when she’s stressed and you laugh at her spreadsheets. Welcome to the family.
